About counselling
People may seek counselling for many different reasons, perhaps with issues such as:-
abuse, anxiety, bereavement, depression, eating difficulties, family / relationship difficulties, low confidence / self-esteem,
mental health issues, personal growth, sexuality, stress, suicide / suicidal thoughts and work related problems.
However, your reasons for seeking counselling may not fit with any of the above, this really does not
matter as I firmly believe most issues can be worked through in counselling.
Perhaps you are experiencing difficulties in your life. Are you struggling to make sense of things? Do you find relationships hard work? Maybe you seek to make changes in your life and would like support to explore choices that would enable you to live your life as you would wish to. Do you have some sense of unhappiness or dissatisfaction within your life but struggle to understand why you should feel this way? Maybe what is happening now in your life or what has happened to you in your past creates a barrier to your ability to move forward in life.
You may be a student counsellor who is required to undertake mandatory personal therapy during training and
wish to use counselling for personal growth and enlightenment or to work on unresolved issues or issues arising
during training.
Whatever difficulties we may experience if we bottle them up and do not deal with them satisfactorily they can adversely affect our health, our well-being, and our ability to work and to enjoy relationships and social activities.
How counselling may help
Counselling can provide an opportunity for you to gain a better understanding of yourself and of the issues that trouble you. You may want to explore aspects of yourself and your history that you have never explored before. Perhaps you wish to explore patterns of behaviour in your life. Maybe you wish to understand your self and your self in relationships with others that trouble you or perhaps you need to come to terms with painful issues or memories from the past.
Counselling offers you a safe, private space to talk through the things that are troubling you in confidence. |
