Ethics and Confidentiality

flowerAs a member of the British Association for Counsellors and Psychotherapists (BACP) I work within its Ethical Framework for Good Practice and I am subject to its professional conduct procedures. Confidentiality is maintained in accordance with BACP guidelines as outlined on the BACP website. My adherence of the BACP Code of Ethics guidelines ensures that I work in such a way as to fully promote the emotional wellbeing and safety of the client at all times.

I believe confidentiality and trust to be the basis on which the counselling relationship develops and that it allows the client to speak more openly, to fully explore their difficulties, to really look at themselves often at such a time as when they are feeling hurt, upset and at their most vulnerable. Everything discussed in the counselling sessions remains confidential between the client and my self. The only exception to this would be if I had reasons to believe that there was a risk of serious harm and this will be discussed at our first meeting.

In accordance with BACP guidelines I have supervision of my counselling work whereby I may share aspects of my work with my supervisor but always maintaining client anonymity.

Before beginning any counselling work a written contract is agreed and signed between myself and the client.
